Ben Babbitt‘s Paris Window OST album is out via Los Angeles’ Not Not Fun on August 30, with preview track ‘The Landlord’ premiering on AQNB today. The Los Angeles-based producer, musician and composer—also known for his work on critically acclaimed video game Kentucky Route Zero—contributed the soundtrack to director Amanda Kramer’s 2017 film of the same name, described as a “hypnagogic psychological thriller”.
The eerie ambient score sustains the psychological drama of a co-dependent sibling relationship in crisis, where their peculiar infatuation plays out in the oppressive surroundings of a small Chinatown apartment. The ambient synth sweeps and unlocated recordings of tracks like ‘Spirit Gate’, ‘Zwilling 2 – An Echo’ and ‘Sunny’s Party’ echo the awry atmospherics of a room glowing with hypnosis informercials and temporal collapse. ‘The Landlord’, meanwhile, is one of the more literal interpretations of its own title, as the dull knock on the hollow wood and strings of a cello moves forward with percussive urgency.**
