Midsummer Rose, a group exhibition organised by and featuring Lukas Malte Hoffmann and Susan Kooi, was on at Outo Olo, Helsinki, running January 16 to February 14.
Installed in the Finnish winter, the show is built around an out-of-season native rosebush, housed in a ceramic vase by Man Yau, which flowers under artificial light as a sealed memento of a lost summer. Also featuring a zine with a contribution from Feminist Culture House, an accompanying mix by Malibu and an online LARP performance work by Susan Ploetz, Midsummer Rose evokes a kind of magical storytelling, noting that at “the end of the exhibition, when the last petal falls, the spell will be broken.”**
