Avbvrn released EP Caldera via Melbourne’s Decisions on July 26, with a music video for track ‘Shroud’ premiering on AQNB today. The Frankfurt-based composer, producer and DJ has been rather active, releasing a number of EPs, including A Hunt on Jerome Worldwide in 2017, and organising club night Nancy.

Six contemplative tracks with titles like ‘Truncated’, ‘Parallax’ and ‘Harmony Revisited’ cycle through abstract compositions of manipulated samples and degraded field recordings that feel haunted by the acoustic instruments they’re taken from. The classical piano is a recurring motif whose presence dips and peaks in focus across tracks, while ‘Shroud’ is the waviest atmospheric number of the lot. It lives up to its title by making its instrumentation virtually indecipherable, which is matched by the accompanying video. Its blown out image fragments of natural textures and distant landscapes have been flattened beneath their monochrome reproductions.**
