Broken Spear (aka Seb Choe) released album Truth Pieces via Business Casual on January 18, with an accompanying music video for ’25 Legs’ premiering on AQNB today. The Kailua Kona-based producer’s debut album came out on avant-pop electronic label Pedicure Records in 2016, following some years making ambient and shoegaze as part of the Seattle DIY punk scene.

These influences collide on Truth Pieces, where a series of hight-pitched and hyperactive tracks — reminiscent of much contemporary post-PC Music output — meet a more college rock revival sound. ’25 Legs’, meanwhile, is produced in collaboration with Perla Haney-Jardine, who recites surreal spoken word over a rumbling guitar line and the occasional electronic interjection: “My body says, ‘It’s called ‘penance’, dumbass’.” The New York-based visual artist and poet also appears in the video, assembled from myriad recording formats to match the equally complex selection of sonic processes and practices that inspired the music, including ASMR, ADR dubbing and what the press release calls “the spatial-audio effects of intimacy in television”. **
