Lyra Pramuk shares a mix, premiering on AQNB today. The Berlin-based, classically-trained singer, composer, and performance artist is known for her haunting vocal tracks that are tugged out of the organic and into the ethereal realms by delicate electronic manipulations. Committed to the self-actualising potential of feeling, empathy, and listening — as well as a collective, affirmative action — the music is often transcendent and always beguiling.
“It’s probably the angriest or most intense mix I’ve made, but it’s quite empowered too”, writes Pramuk about this ‘Self-Assembly mix’ that includes music by contemporaries like Stine Janvin, Klein, Laurel Halo and Yves Tumor, alongside creative pioneers like Meredith Monk, Lena Platonos, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Psychic TV. Among the more unexpected elements of the selection are prodigious West African songs by Khalifa Ould Eide & Dimi Mint Abba from Mauritania and Aby Ngana Diop of Senegal, as well as some Scandinavian electro folk by Hedningarna. Together, the emotive synth experiments and DIY modular bursts dip in and out from distant voices speaking words that are both familiar and unfamiliar, as a fragile thread that ties the shared story of humanity together.**
