Jasmine Picot-Chapman‘s solo exhibition A Gift Given in Feudal Fashion was on at London’s Almanac, running from December 24 t0 26, 2016.
Open 24-hours, during the UK Christmas holidays, the event invited people to “participate in non-participation” and “contemplate celebration and celebrate contemplation through acts of celebration and contemplation.” Exploring the idea of leisure-time provided by the state, as well as rituals of the culture industry, the exhibition explores what is socially constructed versus fundamental to human “needs, wants and desires.”
The show was host to a series of events including a sound piece on December 24 by Sandra Brown, a tea/reading by Bronte Dow and Rosie Taylor on December 25 — who also contributed texts to the exhibition booklet — a festive lunch made by James Cabaniuk, a lecture/DJ set by Hanni Kamaly and burning of a scent by Ahmad Sardar Afkhami, among other things.**
