Alex Ito is presenting solo exhibition Act I: The Crucible‘s Nest at Los Angeles’ AA|LA, opening September 10 and running to October 22.
The first in a series of narrative presentations —the next is called Act II: Carcass and the White Light and happening at Baltimore’s Springsteen Gallery on October 15 —the New York-based artist presents a show that, according to the press release, “challenges the hegemony of beauty and comfort while exposing its underlying emptiness and delicate violence.”
Presenting images of black decanters (symbols of power) coupled with poetic and confronting text painted over it, Ito carries on his preoccupation with “critical advertisements”, where motifs of leisure and luxury are revealed for their role in “power, mimesis, and manipulation”.
