Bridget Ferrill and Áslaug Magnúsdóttir are releasing EP Woodwind Quintet via Subtext Recordings on July 20, with preview track ‘Metal Slug Sings’ premiering on AQNB today. The record continues the Berlin and Copenhagen-based artists’ discordant and experimental sound collaborations, which began with their performance of ‘Silkworm + Sluxzxx’ for Seyðisfjörður’s LungA residency in 2019.

Woodwing Quintent expands the duo’s aptitude for composing high-contrast compositions, mixing classical sequences with field recordings, noise breaks, and hyper-rhythmic textures. The track ‘Metal Slug Sings’ abruptly pivots from raucous drumbeats. It feels as though time inevitably slows later in the composition. Ferrill and Magnúsdóttir break into a drawn-out ambient pause, a brief respite from the record’s frantic atmospherics despite its grating and fleeting mood.**
