Behind the scenes with Margaret Haines for her On Air: Purity, Corruption & Pollution film production on cult icon Cameron

This shoot for Margaret Haines‘ On Air: Purity, Corruption & Pollution—the titular short film to be released next year—happened in Paris on August 21 to 26.

The project includes a book of the same name, produced in collaboration with AQNB and exploring the life and times of Los Angeles artist Cameron—probably best known for her role in Kenneth Anger’s Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome and marriage to rocket scientist and founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Jack Parsons. The narrative biography draws on the cult icon’s context during the Cold War and beyond, touching on the worlds of notorious English occultist Aleister Crowley, Scientology and Cameron’s own integral role around it. You can hear Haines speak on the project and her practice-at-large with AQNB editor Steph Kretowicz on our Artist Statement podcast from late last year.

Produced by Quentin Dubret of Pastor/Placzek, the On Air: Purity, Corruption & Pollution film includes performances by Jette Loona Hermanis, Livia Hendrickson, Joseph Wood, Arif Hasan, Alain LeToct, and Maryline Paradise, with vocal coaching from Dan Bodan, clothes from Julia Heuer, makeup and stills from Cecilia, music by Sky H1, and more.**
