The Forever Museum Archive_Circa 6000BCE, a solo exhibition by Onyedika Chuke, is on at LMCC Art Center at Governors Island, presented with Pioneer Works and curated by Gabriel Florenz, running June 12 to October 31.
With monumental sculptures of subverted Greco-Roman deities, the works surround a pool of liquid soap produced by New York State’s Division of Correctional Industries, in a critique of the state’s exploitative prison labor practices. As Chuke stated when he appeared on AQNB’s recent Artist Statement podcast: “Analyzing the prison system is a way to get to history.”**
