Milan’s PANE project and Polignano a Mare’s Like A Little Disaster curate the second iteration of their #videotutorials project, as part of the H-O-W-T-O programme co-organised by La Balnéaire and Media Naranja, Marseille, and hosted online by AQNB from today.
Featuring artists and collectives such as Omsk Social Club, Don Elektro, Underground Flower, Candice Jacobs and more, the project is inspired by brief ’how-to’ clips that populate content-hosting platforms like YouTube and TikTok—from beauty and make up, dance to DIY—exploring this phenomenon as a form of pedagogy. For this second edition of the project, the first of which hosted by AQNB in 2018, artists were invited to create short videos using their smartphones ranging from three to 60 seconds, reflecting on their relationships with school and transmission. With education and communication increasingly disrupted, the project asks: “What is the future of art schools in a time of crisis? Do we need to improve efforts in favor of alternative pedagogies or new ways of transmission? How can a recreational tool go beyond its original function and expand into an ironic yet pedagogical form?”
#videotutorials 02 is presented as part of H-O-W-T-O, a collaborative research project “on the notions of common knowledge, transmission and pedagogy through the prism of art”. Co-organised by La Balnéaire and Media Naranja, Marseille, H-O-W-T-O was initiated from the archives of Manifesta 6 in Nicosia, whose temporary art school was cancelled in 2006.
