Sighs and Leers and Crocodile Tears, a solo exhibition by Sula Bermúdez-Silverman, was on at Los Angeles’ Murmurs, running March 7 to April 10.
With sculptures made from the commodified materials of sugar, salt and glass, Bermúdez-Silverman recreates tropes from horror films, elucidating the genre’s social commentaries on capitalism and colonialism. As noted in the press release, the show highlights the dissonance between: “on one side, horror: a genre of contrived narratives and mass-produced representations and, on the other side: terror, the visceral experience of living within capitalism’s monstrosities.”**
