Unsound is releasing Intermission on March 5, with track ‘Varg2™ & VTSS – VARGTSS2 (Miss Understanding)’ premiering on AQNB today. The project contains a book and album that features SOPHIE, Jlin, and Tim Hecker alongside 25 written works. The Kraków-based music festival originally conceived the release as an extension of its 2020 online edition.

Varg2™ and VTSS test boundaries of surveillance and artificial intelligence within smart home assistant technology like Amazon Echo and Google Home on their track ‘VARGTSS2 (Miss Understanding)’, situating the device’s natural language processing capabilities throughout the score to produce a conversational-like effect. Bubbling synthesis akin to Himera’s 2020 track ‘Broken Friendship Bracelet’ float droning computer-generated phrases. Kick drums barrage the rhythm, eventually boiling over, bursting into a fleeting sound choir voices that leave an uneasy final impression.**

Unsound’s book and album Intermission is released on March 5.
