Skewed narratives, unknown landscapes & the disorienting alienation of the present with the paintings of Mariann Metsis

With paintings featuring English Greyhounds as absurd protagonists, as well as curtains evoking church adornments yet with printed images of Kristen Stewart, the show presents a skewed amalgamation of historical and ideological timelines. Using a thoughtful sense of humour and visual non-sequiturs, Metsis’ work speaks to the confused narratives and disorienting alienation of our capitalist present in crisis. As stated in the exhibition’s accompanying text, written through the voice of a fictional dog, “Listen, the things I say may not be true, but what they say about me, undoubtedly are.”**
