James Lowne shares his What Is Leo Nibz (Interview) mix, premiering on AQNB today. The London-based musician and visual artist is one half of lo-fi folk duo Steve & Samantha, while his work with video, animation, performance and sound has shown at Assembly Point in London and CAC Vilnius, among others.

The 30-minute release (originally recorded in 2017) is described by Lowne as a series of ‘talk pieces’ presented in the form of a recorded interview with an alter ego called ‘Leo Nibz’. Recalling song lyrics, philosophical texts and art books—as well as visits to the doctor and listening to De La Soul records—the artist ambles through a hyperactive selection of drum machines, field recordings, guitar melodies and random thoughts. The piece builds on an ongoing body of material that resembles freestyle, involving spontaneous voice recordings into the phone while walking around, comprehending hesitation and uncertainty through repetition and rhythm.**

James Lowne is a London-based artist and musician.
