Sparkle’s Map Home, a solo exhibition by Tau Lewis, was on at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, Oakville, running January 26 to March 22.
Featuring meticulously crafted sculptures pieced together from found materials, the artist creates a speculative imagining of an ancestral site in the cosmos, with a practice that works to heal “personal, collective and historical traumas through labour”. As noted in the press text, “Lewis reflects on the possibilities of outer space as a locus of both a black past and a black future, one where that which is unbound—materially, spiritually and otherwise—is given license to take shape anew.”**
