Citizen Boy & Mafia Boyz are releasing split album From Avoca Hills to the World via Durban’s Gqom Oh! Records on February 21, with preview track ‘Mzansi’ premiering on AQNB today. Featuring the Durban-based label founder, along with contributions from the crew formerly known as Dope Boyz, the record aims to present the narrative of the South African gqom sound’s past and present.

ANT and Simore contribute vocals echoing Kanye West’s ‘808s and Heartbreak‘, woven together with typically arresting gqom kick patterns punctured by ominous sub stabs. The artists contemplate the narrative of the regional South African scene, firmly asserting the Mafia Boyz crew’s signature darkened and aggressive melodies throughout the record. ‘Msazni’ substantiates their aspirations for a possible future for the form, as a reflection and celebration of their journey outwards from the Durban neighborhood of Avoca Hills.**

Citizen Boy & Mafia Boyz’ From Avoca Hills to the World album is out on Gqom Oh! Records February 21, 2020.
