Poorgrrrl marks a shift in style with the crooning anachronism of memory’s fade of ‘Side A’, directed by Cristine Brache

Poorgrrrl is performing Boiler Room for Miami’s III Points on November 28, with a music video for her ‘Side A’ premiering on AQNB today. The Miami-based music and multimedia duo, including Tara Long and Andrew Byrd, released a special edition 12-inch single release [NAME] Publications last year.

The track is an epic eight minutes long, where the ambient production carries a gorgeous piano melody laden with reverb and soft distortion. As Long croons soulful lyrics in the nostalgic haze of the ‘Side A’ composition, it marks a departure from the brash and brazen hip hop of 2016’s bass-heavy Pitiparty EP. The accompanying video is directed by artist and filmmaker Cristine Brache, who meets the music’s Golden Era vibe of memory’s fade with a montage of sepia-toned clips of American TV classics, including a nod to the simulation and simulacra of 60s, then 90s, then 00s gameshow, Supermarket Sweep.**
