Nostalgia, abstraction & the fleeting, saturated image of everyday life in Gian Manik’s Paintings

Paintings, a solo exhibition by Gian Manik, was on view at Melbourne’s Sutton Gallery, from June 29 to July 27.

The Melbourne-based artist’s paintings mix figuration with blurred moments from photographs and the artist’s memories, in works that meld abstraction and an attuned technique with a sense of the fleeting image saturation of everyday life. As noted by the gallery’s press release:

“Nostalgic, melancholic and facetious Paintings vibrates with emotional and compositional intensity.”**
