A metaphysical space opens up through the dreamy echo chamber & lonely saxophone of Slugabed’s ‘put the runes on u’

Slugabed (aka Greg Feldwick) is releasing album any attempt to control the environment or the self by means that are either untested or untestable, such as charms or spells via London’s Activia Benz on May 24, with preview track ‘put the runes on u’ premiering on AQNB today. The London-based producer and label founder has dropped a number of albums through Ninja Tune, featuring a dubstep and instrumental hip hop style that errs towards the more chiptune aesthetic that Activia Benz promotes.

This third LP locates itself firmly in the UK, with track titles like ‘Nunhead Revisited’ and a number of British vox pops, while also activating hypnagogic, even hauntological elements through its dreamy atmospherics, looping radio transmissions and metaphysical thematic thread. The samples in ‘put the runes on you’ bounce and burst in an echo chamber that resonates with a lonely, playerless saxophone, which seems to squeak through its own spell of indefinite time.**
