Van Boom is releasing EP frown via Dubai’s 971 Records on May 1, with a preview track ‘Nemezida’ premiering on AQNB today. The Kuwait-based producer combines the darker elements of London, Tokyo and Russian-based electronic sounds with his self-identified ‘gothic rave’ from the Arabian Gulf underground.

The EP reflects on Van Boom’s interest in the pop and consumer culture of the mid-to-late 90s with its explicit influence being the IDM and techno of Aphex Twin — more specifically, creepy cult classic ‘Come to Daddy‘. That track enjoyed its 20th birthday last month, while its influence is clear in the frown track listing, including the highly distorted motion of ‘Nemezida’, which also pops with more contemporary elements of post-club and bass music.**

Van Boom’s frown EP is out via Dubai’s 971 Records on May 1, 2019.
