DJ Charme’s ‘Mud Pac’ offers a sonic silver lining in its vision of the Antwerp-based producer’s hometown after the apocalypse

DJ Charme is releasing album Opera via Antwerp’s Midlife Music on February 11, with a preview track of ‘Mud Pac’ premiering on AQNB today. The Antwerp-based producer and label owner released an epic ambient post-club record called Charme last year, with contributions from other exciting artists, including Golin, Kurama, Petit Singe and Casey MQ among others.

This next record crystallises the contrasting elements of DJ Charme’s style in what the press release calls an “imaginary movie taking place in the artist’s hometown in a post-apocalyptic future.” Themes of hope and despair are separated into discrete tracks, where lead single ‘Naïade‘ is a fitful bounce through a bass-free harpsichord frolic, while the grumbling and swelling atmospherics of ‘Sheathing’ mimics the sound of its own title. Meanwhile, the undertow of a low end in ‘Mud Pac’ is distorted nearly into non-existence, while an Autechre-esque modulated synth sparkles above.**
