“Both apocalypse & utopia are already here.” Bonaventure confronts the tension of existence with ‘Both (ft. Hannah Black)’

Bonaventure (aka Soraya Lutangu) is releasing EP Mentor via the UK’s Planet Mu on November 9, with a preview of track ‘Both (ft. Hannah Black)’ premiering on AQNB today. The Lisbon-based producer has already released with labels like NON Worldwide and PTP Recordings, and worked with artist-writer Black on a series of performances, including the Anxietina series with Ebba Fransén Waldhör.

Mentor follows up 2017’s FREE LUTANGU, which was inspired by the tragic death of Lutangu’s nephew and forced her to confront the real life consequences of racial prejudice in a brutal selection of noisy, sample-based tracks. This follow-up comes in its aftermath, with the artist contemplating the lessons learned since that release in an equally resolute, though less combative selection of tracks. Closer ‘Both (ft. Hannah Black)’ dives deep into the polarities and tensions that govern Bonaventure’s sound, where a heavy, distorted bass line buttresses Black’s monotonic insistence that “both apocalypse and utopia are already here.”**
