YOTO takes a makeshift avant-pop aesthetic to its extreme with the fractured rhythms & chopped up melodies of ‘Cuki’

YOTO (aka Ignacio Sandoval) is releasing album QLEA via Buenos Aires’ Agva Records on November 22, with a preview of track ‘Cuki’ premiering on AQNB today. This is the fifth record by the Buenos Aires musician and sound designer, who has also released on Argentinian juke label ABYSS and played last year’s Festival Hyperlocal in London.

Produced and recorded by Sandoval, the album features nine berserk tracks with titles like ‘LªLªLª’, ‘__—–‘ and ‘Zsport’. The ramshackle, crude nature of the production that features frenetically assembled compositions of bells, whistles and high-pitched whines has the same thrillingly makeshift qualities of pioneering avant-pop artists like Micachu and Tune-Yards. YOTO’s style is more frenzied, with the manic stops and starts lurching you through a rollercoaster of fractured rhythms and chopped up melodies.**

YOTO’s QLEA album is out via Buenos Aires’ Agva Records on November 22, 2018.
