Sinjin Hawke & Zora Jones are releasing debut album Vicious Circles via London’s Planet Mu on August 3, with preview track ‘Lurk 101’ premiering via AQNB today. The Barcelona-based duo behind the Fractal Fantasy production unit have been living and working together since 2011. In that time they’ve been applying their shared penchant for music, video, CGI and fashion in a combined portfolio that includes releases with the likes of DJ Rashad, Jlin and MikeQ, as well as a Sinjin Hawke production credit on one of the best songs on Kanye West’s 2016 The Life of Pablo album, ‘Wolves‘.

Having been on the scene for as long as they have, it’s a wonder that Sinjin Hawke & Zora Jones are only now releasing their first album together. Vicious Circles is well worth the wait though, where their sleek experimentalism — comparable to their Night Slugs and Fade to Mind counterparts — is realised in several convulsive moments of deep bass and crisp, clipped sampling. The manipulated vocal sound bytes is key to the EPs potency, with remnants of a chorale embellishing this most frenetic and footwork-sounding track in ‘Lurk 101’. The stomach-churning melody of layered and cyclic melodies are buttressed by pitched and bouncing voices, while accents of beat syncopations make it a uniquely bracing listen.**
