Organized by Nick Faust and Alexandra Symons Sutcliffe, the weekend program brings together “dance documentation, narrative film and activist/ interventionist practices to frame the failing body as a site for action.” Looking at the messy, interrupted, failed and disobedient gestures and its relationship to a ‘desired future,’ the curators ask, “What does it mean to fold failure into action?”
The program will feature a screening on Friday night that will include ‘Magnesium, a document of a dance’ (1972) by Steve Paxton, ‘Chute, Edit of the first Contact Improvisation demonstrations/installation in N.Y.C.’ at the John Weber Gallery (1972), ‘In the Air’ (2009) by Liza Johnson and ‘Fall Line’ (1982) performed by Elizabeth Streb.
The Saturday will include a Civil Disobedience workshop with Alexis Danzig of Rise and Resist, ACT-UP and a presentation lecture ‘ASCO’s No-Movies’ by C. Ondine Chavoya.
