Grear Patterson presented solo exhibition Cereal Eater at Dublin’s Ellis King which opened May 13 and is running to June 17.
Mixing personal momentos and pop culture references, Patterson produces what the press release calls “the fungibility of identity, autobiography, and personal inquest.” The installation brought together sculpture, painting, videos, and drawing to bring attention to his anarchy as a form of authority. Art theory and ‘awkward adolescent scenarios’ clash to explore hierarchy.
The artists’ childhood is placed into the spotlight, where memory and reconstruction become materials to recycle. Household objects such as children’s toys, walkie talkies, cookie jars, pinball machines, collectibles, taxidermied geese feet, video games, and love letters to name a few become characters in the comic and futile narrative.**
