The EMBED_IMG group exhibition at Canary Islands’ TEA (Tenerife Espacio de las Artes) opened January 6 and ran to May 3, 2017.
Curated by Alby Álamo, the show included works by four Berlin-based artists Judith Dorothea Gerke, Christin Kaiser, María León and Lindsay Lawson.
Referencing the way an “embed code is used to incrust an external element,” the title of the show alludes to the way elements acquire new meanings and wander into new routes. The installation is accompanied with a text by Álamo who notes “the truth is, I don’t care. What does matter to me are the meetings which take place in the Canaries, the connections. These meetings arise from a series of historical, geographical and cultural characteristics and perhaps by analysing them we can illuminate a way out of the loop of the inside-outside dichotomy into which we tend to fall when talking about our situation.”
