Brad Phillips presented solo exhibition Bullshit Both Talks & Walks at New York’s James Fuentes, which ran from February 11 to March 2.
“I mean something to these people. That makes me feel upset,” reads the text of the show announcement where someone, presumably Phillips, shares two Instagram messages from fans he feels compelled to block: “you’re such a great artist it shocks me I could witness you passing/ I wish I could just walk up to you and give you money and food.”
The two adulatory texts riddled with spelling errors are followed by Phillips’ thoughts in response, where he questions his value and ponders the PO Box he took out as protection from these unsolicited advances. “So these people I mean something to, when they send me these messages, I block, so they can never see me or reach out to me again.”**
