Greg Ito presented solo exhibition Soothsayer at Los Angeles’ Steve Turner, which was on from September 10 to October 8, 2016.

Exploring feelings of nostalgia and loss, the installation is immersed in a narrative of romance and tragedy. The painting and sculpture is housed in an environmental installation of pink walls and purple lights to simulate the sky at twilight.

The work situates itself within Saudade (European Portuguese: [sɐwˈðaðɨ]), which is a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return. A stronger form of saudade might be felt towards people and things whose whereabouts are unknown, such as a lost lover, or a family member who has gone missing, moved away, separated, or died.**

Greg Ito’s Soothsayer was on at Los Angeles’ Steve Turner, running from September 10 to October 8, 2016.
