Evan McGraw is presenting solo exhibition Aimee Mann at Los Angeles’ Dem Passwords, opening October 1 and running to October 29.

The Vancouver-based artist will present handwritten works on paper produced over ten months while listening to the music of, and scribing the lyrics by American singer-songwriter Aimee Mann. According to the press release, McGraw has been applying a gothic and italic-influenced expressive calligraphy system with “monastic devotion” to parchment since 2013, developing a musical quality to the spacing, waves and flourishes of the letters, words and phrases on show at the gallery.

Dem Passwords, currently based in a temporary location in LA’s Chinatown, has presented the work of artist Rachel Lord in the past, while its ongoing relationship with artists working at the intersection of visual art and music is exemplified with its previous exhibition, Judgement Repentance God Order by dub icon Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.
