Catarina Dias is opening a new solo show with a hell of a name at Lisbon’s Vera Cortes with Digging for fire in a long multilayered stream. Thoughts. Sounds. Sensations Movements melt together in such condensation transpiring its own taking place Here. Now. And elsewhere, running at the art space from July 3 to September 19.

The new exhibition, curated by Joana Neves, begins with Brain Space, “where nothing is what it seems”. Formulated in reverse, Dias explains the scenic device of her fourth exhibition atVera Cortes with: “the stage is the face, and the backstage is the brain”.

The virtual space becomes the “brain-space”, and her artworks are seen in a “state of suspension between conception and the irreversibility of their materialization”. Materializing poetry through the gestures of drawing and superimposing drawings on the surfaces of a painting, Dias’s show takes a dynamic path guided by text, both Portuguese and English.
