Beginning on April 5 and running until May 3, Los Angeles’s OHWOW Gallery will feature the latest exhibition from Daniel Arsham titled Kick the Tires and Light the Fires.
The sculptural, 2-dimensional collection plays with infamous symbols of American culture, such as the McDonalds sign and NBA basketballs, and excavates their significance in the American consciousness. By replicating them not in the plastics and alloys of their original forms, but rather in natural materials such as obsidian, volcanic ash, or glacial rock dust, Arsham uses geological materials to explore contemporary problems, “imbu[ing] these objects with geological time”.
