New York’s Whitney Museum will be holding a two-part symposium, Shared Spaces: Social Media and Museum Structures, on January 14.

A “site-specific network” exploring “the transformation of the museum in the age of social media”, the event will look at the digital devices, corporate platforms and historical shifts affecting the mediation, experience and attitudes towards art in the gallery setting through a series of long-form panels and micro-lectures moderated by digital art scholar Christiane Paul. Other scholars, curators and artists to take part include Ed Shanken, New Museum curator Lauren Cornell, Mendi and Keith Obadike and The Jogging co-founder Brad Troemel, among others. Because in an era where André Malraux’s “museum without walls” has been realised, where exactly do those that still have them stand?
