As if “extraordinary crafted” (not a bargain) design shoes weren’t enough the Mallorcan brand Camper (whose shoes got famous more than a decade ago when people like Spielberg or Uma Thurman started wearing them) got no into the hotel business….

Yep just like easyjet (well, not exactly) Camper seems to jump from one (and their traditional) business to a completely different subject: the hospitality sector via their Casa Camper urban hotels. How? Camper is going from “walk don’t run” to a new motto (and philosophy) “luxury lays in simplicity”… that’s debatable as most of their shoe designs are more baroque than anything else.

Another urban hotel for moderns who won’t mind paying extra (around 200€/night in Barcelona and around 155€ in Berlin for the basic twin room) if they’re after some “discretion, authenticity, healthy life and understand aesthetics as culture, as a source of inner satisfaction.”

new Casa Camper in Berlin

And we think… a bit overpriced (especially the new Berlin “Casa”, one of those amazing cities with very cheap rents & other affordable hotels), but we’re still very attracted by the concept. Hey if they keep it like this they might become the opposite of the easy empire moving into other businesses… (car rentals, flights…?).

Adjacent to each hotel (Barcelona one opened in 2005 and the Berlin one this year) is Dos Palillos, a concept restaurant to eat asian tapas, but spanish style, in a more informal way. Opened in December 2008 under Albert Raurich management, former El Bulli head chef. Ferran Adrià and Fernando Amat from Vinçon were also involved in this project.
