Ugly Americans

It just aired yesterday for the first time in the UK, but on the US this freak delight ended its last 1st season last April wtih a respectable 2 million US viewer mark…

Adult tv animation is nothing new, from the explosion in the 90s of The Simpsons, Beavis and Butt-head, The Critic… up to the latest hits like American Dad or Futurama… a long list of (some more successful than others) highly self-critic series have come up. And each time a new American acid animation experiment pops out of comedy central or any other tv channel we quickly turn our eyeballs back to the USA; we’re still fascinated how these series can reflect a society that might be simplistic and utterly rotten, but still fascinates us.

“Ugly Americans” features a stark, flat visual style which Variety’s Brian Lowry noted “vaguely resembles the EC Comics of the 1950s (think Vault of Horror) — a clever homage that will surely be lost on much of its younger audience. They’ve been developed by David M. Stern (former writer of the Simpsons) and based on an original idea by Devin Clark.

SO what’s it about? …. “Take New York City, add every horrifying beast, science-fiction freak, and fantasy faerie, shake thoroughly, and you’ve got UGLY AMERICANS. This animated horror-comedy series follows one Mark Lilly, social worker at the Department of Integration, as he helps new citizens both human and “other” adapt to hectic life in the Big Apple.”

We highly recommend you to watch it if you’re a real freak and like to know things like if there are double-ass toilets in Manhattan and don’t mind the clear pro-immigrant & political message of the “free” land America. The bad thing is that for watching u either need to live in the States (via proxy of course) so you can see it on the comedy central website, or on five on demand if you’re in the UK. (you can always choose the 3rd Russian open option for everyone of course 🙂 where we found all 7 episodes of the first season (second one coming in October!!)…
