REIF is releasing a self-titled compilation 01 on December 10, with preview track ‘Asmara – Soul Dramatique’ premiering today on AQNB. The release is part of the Berlin label’s Sonic Catharsis residency at Centre d’Art Contemporain Geneve’s 5th floor. They invited artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans, Richard Kennedy, and Cali Rose to reimagine night cultures and catharsis in the wake of the pandemic.
On ‘Soul Dramatique’, Asmara— the alias of electronic musician and Moved by The Motion member Asma Maroof— ignites a montage of high-energy club. The beat channels influences of gqom alongside her signature left-field rhythms that characterized her independent releases and those as part of the notorious Nguzunguzu duo. Chants swing through short bursts of synthesizers accented by subtle electronics. The composition pulsates unrelentingly, affirming that there’s always time to dance onward, even in the most dramatic unknowns.**
