PhotoEspaña 2010 – Madrid

, 8 June 2010

The most important Spanish photo festival is back! and we’re here to remind you… of course. Tomorrow starts the 13th edition of PhotoEspaña (Photospain).

With 70 exhibitions PhotoEspaña shows the works of 379 artists from 41 different nationalities. Sérgio Mah (commissioner behind PHE for the past 3 years) will be leaving the direction of this big event under one of the biggest subjects of modern photography: Time…

Shooting the Apple 1964 - Harold Edgerton

Since the first edition of the Festival, 723 exhibitions have been hosted in the city’s main museums, art centres and galleries. The shows are complemented by pedagogic and professional programs designed for diverse audiences. The heart of the Festival in Madrid is located along the Paseo de Castellana, that runs through the city centre. For the past two years the city of Cuenca has become a neighbouring location of the Festival.

Basically most of the important museums & cultural venues in Madrid are showcasing a PHE exhibition… from the Modern art Museum, to the French or German Institutes, the national Library, Ministries, Gardens, streets, art galleries…. the whole city.

But as you know PHE is growing not only in visitors but also in locations. Lisboa will participate again and Cuenca will welcome the OpenPhoto show (proposals from other countries embassies ) while you’ll be able to learn @ the photography workshops in Alcalá de Henares.

Mother & daughter, Plaza de Mayo 1982 - Adriana Lestido

Different ways of presenting the time. Some exhibitions are focused on the effects of photography interruption & nature and how that influences our perception of movements. Others pay attention to the ephemeral trying to underline the temporality & inestability of their works….

Others like historical moments, the archive and individual as well as collective experience

Collier Schorr, "Game Keeper", 2004

You have from tomorrow until July 25th 🙂

PHotoEspaña is organized by La Fábrica www.lafabrica.com, a company dedicated to arts management. The Festival is made possible thanks to the support and collaboration of private companies and public institutions.
