[tweetmeme] Art Basel Miami Beach is the most important art show in America, a cultural and social highlight for the continent. As you’ve probably guessed it’s the sister event of Switzerland’s Art Basel, the most prestigious art show worldwide for the past 40 years. Art Basel Miami Beach combines an international selection of top galleries with an exciting program of special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design. Exhibition sites are located in the city’s beautiful Art Deco District, within walking distance of the beach and many hotels.
This year the exhibition gets a redesign to give more space to the galleries and a better traffic for all visitors. A new exhibition area, the Oceanfront will be inaugurated after a collaboration with the legendary New York-based public art organization Creative Time. Los Angeles artist Pae White has designed an immersive social space, the first commission of its kind for Art Basel Miami Beach. The environment, created by the use of theater scrim, scaffolding, and bleachers, will be radically different by day than by night.
