Fame Fest 2010 @ Grottaglie – Italy

, 24 July 2010

The third edition of the Italian Fame Fest (one of our favorite Street Art celebrations) will begin in exactly 2 months (well…. the final opening show). Again at the small southern city of Grottaglie with all those white houses & walls waiting for international artists to be re-imagined.

The idea is to host a dozen of artists for variable length of time (from 1 to 4 weeks) and to offer them the cooperation of the local artisans for the production of pottery works and limited edition prints. Furthermore the artists will have at their disposal several walls to paint around the city, in order to upgrade a few areas which are aesthetically depressed.

Os Gemeos’ muñecos invasion (this year)

At the end of their stay, everything created, including new original artworks, screenprints and ceramic pieces made with the collaboration of local artisans will be showcased in a final group show which will take place in one of the most ancient ceramics workshop of the area, the opening is set to be on the 25th of September. It has to be said, the festival is entirely financed and curated by Studiocromie, which is a one-man (+ his parents) screenprinting studio, without any kind of sponsorship from external sources.

Some of the most renown street artists from the last decade have already left or stamped their creatures  in Grottaglie’s white walls (look previous years works). We’re talking about many latin artists like BLU, SAM 3, Os Gemeos, Nunca…. although many other International artists do show up every year.

You can really go at anytime during the year to see all that artwork but the first 4 weeks of September you’ll probably bump into many street artists finishing their works b4 the party. So again, if you have time by the end of September, or haven’t taken your summer vacations yet… go to this small Italian city near the coast and admire some true amazing pieces. Then tell us about it 😉
