Katarzyna Perlak will be hosting ‘Artist Lunchtime Crit’ at London’s Turf Projects on March 18.

The free event will take place from 12pm to 2pm and is open to all artists and students wishing to get feedback on their work, with this week’s session led by the mixed-media artist and Slade student Perlak whose work explores “intersectional narratives concerning women, migrant and queer histories” with a current focus on “the potentiality of affect as a tool for registering and archiving current and past historical moments.”

Perlak is currently showing work in On the Verge at London’s 12 Stars Gallery and will be presenting a video in the Leeds Queer Film Festival running March 24 to 26.

The And so it was, and so it is group exhibition is on at London’s Turf Projects, opening September 9 and running to October 22.

Challenging the traditional format of a themed group effort, the show began with a year-long collaboration between the artists that resulted in a short story, which then became the foundation for subsequent exhibitions. It Was A Dark And Stormy Night travelled around England, each time presenting a new incarnation. Like the game exquisite corpse, the artists, including Florent Dubois, Graeme Durant, Jemma Egan, Lindsey Mendick, Suzanne Posthumus and Josh Whitaker, took turns adding content to the narrative creating a “sensational and exaggerated work”. The intention was to “celebrate the farce and lightness that underpins their practice”.

And so it was, and so it is is the culmination of a year’s collaborative work. A large scale group installation exploring the work created over the duration of this project, interlinking themes and practices to create new narratives and tales . The artists will be taking over the walls, floors, Twitter and Instagram of Turf Projects, submerging all aspects of the gallery’s identity into their “overzealous and sensational aesthetic”.

Get Fit @ Turf Projects, March 4 – April 16

Croydon’s Turf Projects will host group show Get Fit, opening March 4 and running April 16.

Formally ‘Workout World’ before the space became an art space, Turf Projects was once walled in mirrors and host to a showcase of exercise machines and fitness gear. The artists in Get Fit, which already has its own website, will look at how art can gather distance and abstraction from the gym world, imitating memberships, workout atmospheres, self-esteem, voyeurism, supplements and physical health-based public interactions.

Artists showing include Adham Faramawy, Claire Davies, Aoife Mullan, and David John Scarborough and Olivia Domingos (who are co-curators of the show), with music by James Murphy x IBM, who in 2014 made a track using data from U.S open tennis matches.

Moments of Zen @ Turf Projects, Jan 8 – Feb 20

Turf Projects presents Moments of Zen, new work by Harry Meadley, David McLeavy and special guest, Hatsune Miku running January 8 to February 20.

The definition of the phrase ‘Moment of Zen’ varies depending on the circumstances but it is often used when describing something that is humorously unavailable: when zen is definitely not available. The press release notes that the artists want to “attempt to contemplate the profound in the stupid and the stupid in the profound”.

David McLeavy is a Sheffield-based artist and Harry Meadley is Leeds-based. Both have had a number of solo shows across the UK. Hatsune Miku is a vocaloid persona. She is a global pop icon who has a huge reputation and has supported Lady Gaga, as well as performing on her own.

Business As Usual @ Turf Projects, Jul 9 – 30

Turf Projects opens up a massive exhibition exploring how artists network and market themselves with Business As Usual, running at the South London space from July 9 to July 30.

Looking at self-marketing, often thought to be a dirty practice in the art world and one at odds with the romantic vision of the “authentic” impoverished artist, Business As Usual invites one hundred of them to explore this “almost performatory element of their practices” in the second of a series of exhibitions traveling throughout the UK.

The exhibition, organised by Perce Jerrom, includes the works of artists like Gabriel Birch, Viktor Timofeev, Mat Jenner, Julia Crabtree & William Evans, Pierre Clément, and Eloïse Bonneviot, as well as a programme of events, workshops, and talks.

MUTEK 2015 is running in Montréal in the week beginning May 25, and in Athens, Oliver Laric, Marlie Mul and Katja Novitskova are among the participants in NEON’s Terrapolis group exhibition in collaboration with London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Online, Vince Mckelvie is showing on “file-based” exhibition space Panther Modern.

In London, JACK댄스 is putting on another show at Power Lunches, Rausch Turning presents Bahamian Moor and Jack Strange, Josh Whitaker and Holly Hendry are among the artists taking part in Turf Projects‘ TRU LUV exhibition. DAM Projects, founded by Daniella Rose King, Amanprit Sandhu and Morgan Quaintance, is presenting a one-day exhibition by OliMay 27 Terry for its Sunday School series, and Hito Steyerl and Karen Archey are among the participants at the ICA‘s Fear of Missing Out event. Sounds like… is launching with the NO SCREENING event at IMT Gallery.

In Berlin, Thomas Jeppe, Flora Klein and Agatha Valkyrie are some of the artists taking part in The Way of the Novel group exhibition at Oracle Berlin, while Lotic and Air Max ’97 are on the line-up at Dönerteller Versace’s party at Konzulát.

Turf Projects: Kickstarter Launch, Apr 6

Turf Projects – a Croydon-based, artist-run creative space comprised of a group of artists, filmmakers, architects and designers – is launching a Kickstarter on April 6 from 4pm to 7pm in The Studio at The Matthew Yard.

Filled with live music, rewards and surprises, as well as some smoked trout bagels to hold off the pre-dinner hunger, the Turf team will be there to meet and mingle with the local community. The night will feature a special film preview of ‘No Turf Unturned’, as well as music and performances from Kero Kero Bonito, Ken Kobayashi, Octagon Court, and more.
