Oxcars 2011

27/10/2006 - 28/10/2006
Sala Apolo, Nou de la Rambla, 113
Barcelona, 08004 Spain

Barcelona much like Berlin has a personal & internal competition to become Europe's sharealike cultural capital. The Freecultural movement is alive and year after year the Oxcars night reminds us of such need. Artists and performers from all areas of Spanish and international culture take part in a "Gala" with all kind of surprises, pooling their efforts to demand a stop to culture being treated as merchandise by royalty management organisations and cultural industry lobbies. Internet criminalization, limiting access and…

Smile for London @ CBS screens – London Tube

17/01/2011 - 28/01/2011
London Tube, London Tube
London, United Kingdom
+ Google Map
free

Few undergrounds have the advertising installations the London Tube has (despite being a horribly hot, old & deficient transport system). All those CBS projectors, all those TVs on the tunnels, escalators.... truly invasive, persuasive... efficient? And here comes an initiative by the guys @ memepartnership (Alex Stevens & Jo Kotas) that will eradicate all ads from those CBSO platform screens, and many of you will probably think it's another "arty" clever campaign, but it won't be... The Smile for London…

Dock’s Docs

01/03/2011 - 30/04/2011
online

A documentary remix competition? You may know 200 different types, but this is the first time we've personally heard of  the "Remix" series. And because it doesn't seem that crazy (and also it's part of the Euroean Culture Congress), oh and because it's a creative contest (one of those with prizes) we thought you could be interested... First, let's give you the contest of why it's called "Dock's Docs", even though you may have already guessed... For those of you…

We're giving you too short notice but there's still just over a week left for you to crawl into Liverpool St tube station (Westbound central line platform) and discover one of the popular CBS advertising space takeovers (remember Smile for London?). Super-Computer-Romantics – Paris

21/04/2011 - 27/05/2011
La Gaîté Lyrique, 3bis Rue Papin
Paris, 75003 France
+ Google Map
$7

Who needs to pay Frillions to Publicis, WPP or Omnicom when you can have the God of brand refreshment and image "coolization" for a far more affordable price? (ok, this may no longer apply). You all probably remember the summer 2009 MTV relook or last year's AOL crazy logo relaunch... because all brands need some surgery from time to time and if it can make decades-old institutions look as new born stars, even better. Matt Pyke is responsible for these…

New York MoMa, 11 West 53rd Street
Manhattan, NY, NY 10019 United States

Machines already talk. That's what M2M technologies are for, and the billions of connected devices in the coming years will only keep increasing with time... our cameras will talk to us, just like our fridges or even our toilets! But for these machines and objects to talk to us in an effective way these have to recode their original language into something understandable by all human beings. Moma's Talk to Me exhibition comes to explore such communication. All objects contain…

Hackney Film Festival

15/09/2011 - 18/09/2011
various, Hackney
London, United Kingdom
various

The good thing about London is that there's always something exciting going on. If it's not a cinema competition on racing boats across the city canals is hidden super secret evenings with Eastern Europe's best trapeze artists or high-quality electro squats. The bad thing is that most of these are 1 time only and hardly repeat themselves throughout the months or years. And here comes the second edition of a great initiative:the Hackney Film Festival! Conceived as a platform for local…
