The Saint-Cirq Lapopie Biennale was on at various locations around the French village from July 23 to 30, 2016.

Curated by Pierre-Alexandre Mateos and Charles Teyssou, the Biennale took place in a Potemkin village nestled on a hill in the stony region of Lot in south of France and featured work by US and French based artists Cédric Fargues, Aidan Koch, Richard Phillips, Bunny Rogers, Mindy Rose Schwartz and Anna Solal.

The site-specific work was installed in various public places in the area (abandoned house, church, street, cemetery) and explored the relative authenticity of this ‘perfect’ village, emphasizing its artificial Disney-ification within the idyllic pastoral vision; too unreal to live in, too authentic to erase.**

Il Futuro Era Bellissimo Per Noi @ Cité Internationale, Apr 14 – 30

13 April 2016

The Il Futuro Era Bellissimo Per Noi group exhibition is on at Paris’ Cité Internationale des Arts, opening April 14 and running to April 30.

Hosted off-site by Bari’s 63rd-77th steps, there is little information about the show, aside from the Italian title that translates to a softly poignant ‘The Future Was Beautiful For Us’ in English and a typically impressive list of artists taking part, including Mathis Collins, Cédric Fargues, Kareem Lotfy, Quintessa Matranga, and Ilya Smirnov among others.

The “project staircase” founded by Fabio Santacroce has hosted a number of interesting exhibitions in various locations like the 14 steps of an abandoned 20th century building it takes it’s name from in Italy, a deserted bank, and the beach.

This Paris event will be happening in apartment 8003 of the studio building by appointment only following the opening and comes soundtracked by a cover version of Italian song ‘L’immensità’ (‘immensity’ in English) by singer-songwriter Gianna Nannini on the 63rd-77th website.

Other artists taking part include Sean Townley, Mariantonietta Bagliato, Anna Franceschini, Frieder Haller, Emanuele Marcuccio, Josip Novosel and Anna Solal.

See the 63rd-77th steps website for details.**
