Forlorn Martyrs Pull A Mirror From The Abyss @ dukan hourdequin – Paris
08/12/2012 @ 5:00 pm - 16/02/2013 @ 5:00 pm
freeAnother “first” for the city of Paris this winter as next Saturday marks the opening of Czech artist Josef Bolf’s solo exhibition @ galerie dukan hourdequin.
Josef, who’s never hidden the hostile environments that were part of his childhood experiences always becoming a central subject for his works, presents in this new exhibition some new paintings which seem to lose their earlier personal acuteness; by contrast, they become to possess a more general overreach reflecting a broader existential experience.
From his past works remains that feeling of ambiguity and the unknown we’ve always admired from him, but in the past years there have emerged a number of works with various entrances and passages…. some sort all-devouring black mirrors, the gates of hell, which have no real appearance, though, and are often and at the same time a direct reflection of existing places.
In the paintings from 2012 emerges Bolf’s new attitude coming not only from a personal but also a more general mythological tradition. European Romanticism and dreamy scenes, art history time travels and unusual (many times scary) stories await all of us until mid-February with random situations, whose meaning is yet to be unveiled and understood. Everything starts in 3 days, more info on Dukan Hourdequin’s website.
