Sorbus @ SIC Gallery, Jun 10 – Jul 27

8 June 2016

Sorbus will present exhibition Fucked Up in a Bad Way at SIC Gallery, opening June 10 and running July 27.

The show is part of an exhibition exchange between the two Helsinki spaces. SIC will simultaneously curate an exhibition at Sorbus, which is run by collective members Otto Byström, Henna Hyvärinen, Jonna Karanka, Sakari Tervo, and Tuomo Tuovinen.

The press release includes two quotes that talk of the death of punk and alternative culture, and of the usefulness if humans could distill alcohol in their bodies in the cold and dark times, like the crucian carp fish found at the bottom of anoxic seas. The trailer for the exhibition (below) features a startup group that plans to use the alcohol produced by the Northern European as a business enterprise.

Nastja Säde Rönkkö @ Saariaho Järvenpää, March 3 – April 10

1 March 2016

Artist Nastja Säde Rönkkö has a solo show called Dear Diary at Helsinki’s Saariaho Järvenpää, opening March 3 and running April 10.

The press release for Dear Diary explains a process of diary writing. On one side of the paper the artist writes an observational and “as emotionless as possible” account of what has happened during the day. On the other side she writes how she felt.

See the event image below for an excerpt of the diary, written in Nida, Lithuania. It will be interesting to see how Rönkkö translates or extends the diary, which sits between intimate act and formal presentation to a physical gallery space.

Rönkkö is a part of of collective LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner, whose live event in an elevator last month aqnb covered.

See Saariaho Järvenpää’s exhibition webpage for more details**
