Dukes of Chutney – ‘Domino’

1 November 2013

Featuring at least one film maker to the fashion houses and one performance artist, the Dukes of Chutney title track from their forthcoming Domino EP has a lot of things going on with it. But then two threads soon become a bunch, all of which sound good, acclimatising its listener to a warm bath of funk rhythm and liquid ambience transmitted from a nebulous location.

Premiered on Tim Sweeney’s NYC radio show and released on his fledgling label of the same name, Beats in Space, November 5, the yield of “California born brothers from other cosmic mothers who met surfing” offers a certain gauzy slacker vibe that resonates through the label’s recent Tornado Wallace release and its Secret Circuit inaugurator. We’re sensing a definite thread here. **

BiS premieres Tornado Wallace track

19 June 2013

Signing to New York based Beats in Space, Australian producer Tornado Wallace (aka Lewie Day) presents Desperate Pleasures. Also home to LA’s Secret Circuit, the label released the 12-inch on June 18 and DJ/BiS-founder Tim Sweeney premiered it on air, which you can see below.

Featuring three tracks from the veteran producer, artwork by Californian artist Steven Harrington and and a tri-colored, Day-Glo splattered vinyl, the record is not only a collector’s fantasy but reflects the oxymoronically cosmic grounding of Day’s kraut, post punk and house influences. Brooklyn’s Will Work For Good, who design for a range of independent labels, including RVNG Intl, was also in charge of the packaging. See the new video below and the Beats in Space website for more details. **

Je m’ennuie

4 June 2012

Ahhhh if only Pierre Rousseau or Simon Meny had directed films in the 70s… or if only they had put the soundtrack to some of the greatest classics of the Nouvelle Vague… then our parents would have danced the best of minimal and we would be dancing disco right now!

After last month’s Hémisphère and those dreamy stories they’ve just uploaded today a clip by Arthur Naulot & Aurel Rotival mixing four classics of the French cinema  that go from a nostalgic time-traveler to a violent and erotic Tunisian Eden. You may prefer the night to dance Paradis, but we assure you won’t get bored during daylight neither.

Hémisphère

20 May 2012

Two more from the Parisian duo! Paradis are about to drop their second Hémisphère 12″ under BIS next Tuesday, another exercise of delicate pop and dreamy storytelling, ephemeral happiness and furtive looks. That’s only their own “Hémisphère”, so imagine what the B side “Je m’ennuie” shall bring us.

A release accompanied by this clip by Sacha Barbin… Montmartre & Pigalle never looked so empty.
