Troubles of my time @ Galerie Christophe Gaillard – Paris
24/01/2013 @ 6:00 pm - 23/02/2013 @ 5:00 pm
freePierre-Yves Bohm has always, throughout his whole career as a painter, explored the matter to represent humanity; silhouettes, faces, bodies, skulls and effigies are shown only to be mutilated on the canvas.
Opening next Thursday @ Galerie Gaillard, “Troubles of my time” adds a new step in Pierre’s extensive career in France showcasing many of his newest works. These are often made of cloth drops – like pieces of shrouds – sewn together like a skin graft. As Yves Brochard puts it…. “We are surprised by the richness of his technique. Many of his gestures are known but many others are bizzare: parts of the canvas which have been recovered are sewn and then there are these sort of colored points which emerge from fibers as coming from the back of the canvas, as if the back of the painting was willing to reveal itself…
…Sometimes the paintings give the impression of being “heckled”, I’m particularly thinking of “Voile de crâne” (up). Over that magnificent grey background we can appreciate those paint points and we infer what the artist does: he makes his paintings literally “sweat” by pressing the canvas from the other side… and back there is sometimes a reall chaos”.
Paintings with a long journey which will be exhibited from next Thursday until February 23rd. More info this way.
