No one lives here @ RCA – London

20 years of the MA graduate show @ London’s RCA is a long period for the English institution, and what better way of celebrating than this year’s expo? 2013 is all about our digital age and how it penetrates, impregnates and invades all aspects of our modern life, domestic, political… everything.

“No one lives here” talks social engagement, visual saturation, trashy on-line worlds and even open source, everything through sculpture, installations, moving image and performances, an exhibition about all those contradictions and paradoxes present in our digital age.

The title of the exhibition is derived from Indian theorist and philosopher Gayatri Spivak’s concept of ‘planetarity’ from her book Death of a Discipline (2005). Her assertion that “the globe is on our computers. No one lives there”, frames the exhibition thematic of a virtual environment that is uninhabitable yet populated.
Among the works featured is the UK debut of Hito Steyerl’s film Strike (2010), Neil Beloufa’s new sculptural installation or Shana Moulton’s “Restless Legs Saga”, a combination of surreal video installations & performance.

Also important noticing the series of events that will accompany the exhibition like next Friday’s talk “The Globe is on our computers” with writer and curator Omar Kholeif in conversation with artist David Raymond Conroy and others.
