The project, spearheaded by Cody Critcheloe, began as a Kentucky punk band and slowly morphed into a creative project making music, videos, and art, and staging live performances as part of their work. Now based in LA and New York, the project brings a rotating list of collaborators, sporadically releasing records, directing videos, and creating album artwork for fellow artists.
The art-punk-dance-design-film-collective takes the stage at the Foreign Affairs festival for a one-hour live show to play their “mad mixture of new wave and glam, punk and Italo Disco”.
After ten years of releasing, producing and performing music, SSION will be embarking on their very first UK & European tour. Famous for their lives shows, supporting the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Gossip, as well as producing videos for Peaches and Santigold, they self-released Bent in 2012 and will be at Paris’ La Machine du Moulin Rouge and London’s Birthdays on the weekend of June 29 to 30.
SSION is led by Kentucky-born Critcheloe, who is also known around NYC for applying a Ryan Trecartin video aesthetic to the collective’s dreamy pop dance numbers of an 80s Madonna vibe and Prince-like sensuality. He’s also been on the songwriting team for post-ironic poster girl Lauren Devine’s track ‘Just A Little Ready‘ with Laurel Halo. See full tour dates below. **

The Bent EP from Missouri freak-scene collective Ssion led by Cody Critcheloe received some “interesting” reviews last year maybe without a homogeneous praise but still, mostly agreeing on the extravagant catchy side of their latest production. Great video timing (created in collaboration with created by Drew Bolton & Daniel Goggin) time for a summer club reissue maybe? Maybe yes, as August 7th is the date chosen by Dovecote to release the LP version including tracks and remixes from Mndr, Grimes or Nightfeelings… and mooooore.
