Space Race by Tom Clohosy Cole

30 October 2012

We can’t help it, but each time we see one of Nobrow’s Concertina publications we inevitably fall in love with it. The latest in the Leporello series is about that world-supremacy period in which the former USSR and the USA competed for something else than demonstrating their scientific power.

We all know how it all ended, and maybe the “Space Race” series should sooner or later be updated with the ESA and the Chinese  National space agency new adventures, but for those of you willing to know how it all started Tom Clohosy Cole’s book is a great introduction.

Probably the most significant phase of the Cold War, Space Race covers the USSR’s early triumphs of space exploration on one side and the USA’s race to the moon on the other, everything illustrated with a fact sheet detailing important breakthroughs in space travel on both sides of the Iron Curtain between 1957 and 1975. £10 for this little piece of illustrated history, and it all happens this way.

High Times: A History of Aviation

10 July 2012

Golden Cosmos, the Berlin based couple co-founders of the collective Nepomuk have been producing hand-printed books and illustrations since graduating a couple of years ago. Their latest work (as a collaboration with Nobrow) has just been released in the form of a  Leporello book and should delight most aviators…

The history & mythology from the attempts of Icarus to the industrial revolution (although they might have missed the latest Airbus modernities) … and a long wide detailed list of aviation history events. Maybe more of an educational book for your kids… but the artwork by Daniel & Doris certainly deserves (once again) a wider attention, after all, 13€ for a book that can be either read, displayed or framed is always a good book. More info this way.

ELCAF – East London Comics & Arts Festival

5 April 2012

The first is always the most exciting (or it’s supposed to be), but at the same time it’s usually the hardest one.

So even if the people @ Nobrow are well known for publishing some of the best current artists in the comic scene, organizing such an ambitious festival is a completely different thing. But this is what they have in mind for this summer so… we won’t be the ones spoiling their ambition.

In fact, we’re here to remind you that ELCAF (East London Comic & Arts Festival), as still in the “building” phase, are looking for partners, artists, shopkeepers (you can be both at the same time) and whoever can provide & sell not only amazing  material but also a few funny stories to tell entertain potential customers while flipping through your weird comics, and a big big smile (although you’ll have to pay a fee if willing to have a desk of course).

The whole festival program, details of the artists, talks and more have yet to be unveiled, but one thing is sure… they’re be reviving the cartoon jamming exercise that the TV series  Tac Au Tac put in place in the 70s for some of the most famous Belgian BD artists…  André Franquin, Morris, Peyo & Jean Roba.

We’re anxiously awaiting for the full details of the program, so as soon as we know more, will give it an events posting and let you know… for now (or more info for being part of the event), just head to their page.
